Feira da Vinha e do Vinho 2007 in Anadia
This year São Domingos Cellars had an extra space on this event, besides the usual exhibition stand. A bar next to the concerts stage where sparkling wine was served in flute was a success. Despite the bad weather the SÃO DOMINGOS Extra Bruto and SÃO DOMINGOS Rosé Bruto sparkling wine was a complete success.

Cycling - Grande Prémio Abimota
The 29th Grande Prémio Abimota ended in Águeda with a crowded Eugénio Ribeiro Avenue welcoming the winner Vítor Rodrigues (Liberty Seguros team). The celebration sparkling wine was SÃO DOMINGOS, and was always present on the stages of Gerês, Sta. Maria da Feira, Montemor-o-Velho, Coimbra and Cantanhede. Gold and Silver Medals on Concurso Nacional de Vinhos Engarrafados - 2007
The acknowledge of SÃO DOMINGOS Colheita 2004 red wine by the jury of Concurso Nacional de Engarrafados (National Competition of Bottled Wines) sustains the success attained among consumers. A great volume wine from the Bairrada Region being awarded with a Gold Medal is a reason of satisfaction not just for São Domingos Cellars, but for Bairrada as well. LOPO de FREITAS 2004 red wine, by winning the Silver Medal – its third award this year – reaffirmes itself as a serious case among the Great Portuguese Wines, already stated by the inumerous compliments from both critics and consumers.

Basketball - São Domingos Cellars/Anadia F.C. overcomes the Championship
The female Basketball team that in recent years has fought for the top places of the scoreboard, won this year every single game. By leading the II Division Championship of the of the North B Zone, the team will move on to the next phase and fight for the division ascent. The strength and heart of this team is impressive. IAPMEI/PRIME Contract Signing
Presided by the Minister of Economy Manuel Pinho, a cerimony of contract delivery took place in the Palácio da Bolsa, in Porto, on the 6th of March, celebrated between the IAPMEI (Institute for the Support of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises) and about one hundred companies with projects in the scope of PRIME (Incentives Programme for the Modernisation of Economic Activities). With an on going high investiment supported by PRIME, Solar de São Domingos Cellars was represented by its administrators Lopo de Freitas and António Rodrigues. In the end a sparkling wine of honor was served... SÃO DOMINGOS Lopo de Freitas, to all the attendants by the Solar de São Domingos Cellars. This appreciated gesture earned a personal word of gratitude from the President of IAPMEI, Professor Jaime Andrez.

BAIRRADA and DOURO – Together in Lamego
After Douro coming to Bairrada, it was time for Bairrada to visit Douro. The chosen place was the new facilities of Escola de Hotelaria e Turismo de Lamego (Hotel Management and Tourism School of Lamego). The initiative was taken by Professor Gil Gilardino, in charge of IGA (Institute of the Taste and Aromas of Lamego), in partnership with Museu do Vinho Bairrada (Bairrada Wine Museum), Museu do Douro (Museum of Douro) e a Comissão Vitivinícola da Bairrada. Several Bairrada sparkling wines were served during the reception, including SÃO DOMINGO BRUT 2004, awarded with the Silver Medal on this same initiative that took place in Escola de Hotelaria e Turismo de Coimbra (Hotel Management and Tourism School of Coimbra) in December 15th of 2006. Prepared by Chef Alexandre Ferreira the menu had Beiras’ Black Pudding with Apple and Douro’s Onion Soup for starter. The fish course was Hake Supremes poached in São Domingos brut sparkling wine followed by a São Domingos Old Brandy Ice. The meat course was Posta Maronesa served with Sabores Transmontanos and the for dessert were served Pão-de-Ló of Ovar with Pumpkin Sweet, Cinnamon and Cottage Cheese Foam Ice Cream, and in the end Chocolate Bonbons with Old Brandy.

ESSÊNCIA DO VINHO 2007 – SÃO DOMINGOS EXTRA BRUT was a success.
Once again SÃO DOMINGOS sparkling wine shined brighter on the EXTRA BRUT’s debut on the 4th edition of Essência do Vinho (Wine’s Essence) that took place on Palácio da Bolsa in Porto. Also in focus ELPÍDIO sparkling wine reassured its positioning as one of the house’s top of the line.
Bairrada wines came to be a surprise, for they are getting better every year. The stars of the 2004 crop were QUINTA DE S. LOURENÇO, GRANDE ESCOLHA and LOPO DE FREITAS.

Gaining the clients fidelity by serving well a good wine
On the 30th of January, ocuured at São Domingos Cellars the ending session of a course criated to promote good practices on hygiene and food safety, as well as the best way to serve the excellent wine and sparkling wine produced in the Bairrada region, also known by its rich gastronomy. These courses, targeted for catering professionals, are integrated in a Training plan aproved by PRIME (Incentives Programme for the Modernisation of Economic Activities) and has the support of ACIB (Commercial and Industrial Association of Bairrada), the training entity certified by IQF (Institute for Quality in Training). On this first course was attended by professionals from several houses: “O Motorista” restaurant from Carqueijo – Mealhada, “Schiappa Café” from Mealhada, “Churrasqueira Brazão” and “O Lavrador” restaurant from Anadia and “Pompeu dos Frangos” from Malaposta.
After the ending session, a tour to the facilities of São Domingos Cellars was made, including the new vinification unit, followed by a wine tasting session conducted by the house’s oenologists. Then the trainees, trainers and administration fraternized and enjoyed some of the best sparkling wines produced in this prestigious house of Bairrada.
The attendance, as well as the satisfaction of the trainees, despite the long experience of many of them, highlight the need of improvement on a sector of such importance to the region’s tourism.

Gold and Silver Medals for São Domingos Cellars Sparkling Wine
With 30 sparkling wines from 18 producers competing in The Bairrada Sparkling Wines’ Contest, Quinta de S. Lourenço Brut 2004 was awarded with a Gold Medal, while São Domingos Brut 2004 achieved a Silver Medal. Once again organized by Comissão Vitivinícola da Bairrada, this competition had renowned wine tasters as jury members: António Cerdeira (C.V.R.V.V.); Manuel Póvoa (E.V.B.); Luís Lopes (Revista de Vinhos); Antero Silvano (Caves Primavera oenologist); Francisco Antunes (Caves Aliança oenologist); João Fonseca (Assoc. Escanções de Portugal); Celso Pereira (Caves Transmontanas oenologist); Rui Moura Alves (Confraria dos Enófilos da Bairrada); and Dias Cardoso (Caves Messias oenologist and President of the Jury).

57th Aniversary of the Theatre Group “OS ROUXINÓIS DA BAIRRADA”
Dedicated to the Portuguese Revue Theatre since 1949, “Os Rouxinóis da Bairrada” (Bairrada’s Nightingales) just celebrated another aniversary. With the high sponsorship of the São Domingos Cellars over the last three years, this group has taken Bairrada to the four corners of the earth, with plays where the Sparkling Wine is king. In every performance a SÃO DOMINGOS honor sparkling wine is served to the audience. We strongly recommend this show of great joy and commitment from people who live their passion for the theatre for more than 50 years. The aniversary was celebrated in the Main Hall of União Recreativa Ferreirense, where a homage to Eugénia Castro took place, being awarded the golden nightingale for her over 50 years of performances. José Iglésias, the great steersman of the group on music and production was also remembered.

Dinner at O Porquinho restaurant with SÃO DOMINGOS wines
The presentation of the SÃO DOMINGOS wines and sparkling wines from the 2004 crop took place in Coimbra, in O Porquinho restaurant. Over 60 people were able to state the quality, profissionalism and commitment of the São Domingos Cellars’ technicians. The support of Garrafeira de Celas, the distributing company of São Domingos wines in Coimbra was an important factor to the success attained by this event.

XXVIII GREAT – Confraria dos Enófilos da Bairrada (Bairrada Oenophiles Brotherhood)
Another great Chapter took place in Palace Hotel Bussaco, with Augustina Bessa Luís as Sister of Honor, who unfortunetly couldn’t atend the event for health reasons, and with the presence of the Minister for Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries Jaime Silva. After the enthroning of 26 new brethren, dinner was served with several wines, including “The Best Wine of Bairrada - 2004”, LOPO DE FREITAS 2004 red wine, to delight of all the Brethren and Sisters.

Associação da Rota da Bairrada
The public deed of Associação da Rota da Bairrada (Bairrada Route Association) was signed on the 25th of November by São Domingos Cellars and several economic agents of the region connected do the winery and hotelier sector, as well as the 8 countys that form the region. This association will promote Wine Tourism and all elements linked to it such as gastronomy, spa, sports, etc.

III Meeting of Engineers of the District of Aveiro
The III Meeting of Engineers of the District of Aveiro brought engineers from all the district to Bairrada, to visit interesting places of Anadia, such as Monte Crasto, S. Lourenço marshlands, where you can see its vineyards up to Curia’s Hot Springs. A technical tour was made to the facilities fo WRC (Web on The Center Region), a Regional Development Agency and to the city’s sports complex. After a guided tour to São Domingos Cellars a Bairrada’s Roast Sucking Pig was served with São Domingos sparkling wine. The Engineers then visited the hot springs of Vale da Mó and Museu do Vinho Bairrada (Bairrada Wine Museum), where fernando Santos, the Order of Engineers’ Bastionário (the highest responsible of the Order), was the speaker of the lecture “The Strategic Positioning of the Order of Engineers on the First Quarter of the XXI Century”. Then a protocol between the District Delegation of the Order and ACIB (Commercial and Industrial Association of Bairrada) was signed. The closing comments were made by Paulo Nordeste, chairman of PT Inovação.

And the Best Vineyard of Bairrada is owned by… São Domingos Cellars
For the second time in a row São Domingos Cellars wins “The Best Vineyard of Bairrada” Contest. This event was promoted by Comissão Vitivinícola da Bairrada and was disputed by 24 contestents from Anadia, Águeda, Cantanhede and Mealhada. Casal da Silveira, the winning vineyard, has 2,5 ha in Mogofores and its main vine varieties are Baga and Touriga Nacional.

The newest cellar receives its first grapes for the production of base wine for sparkling wine
The new vinification centre of São Domingos Cellars has now a fully equipped cellar to vinify red and mainly white wines for the house’s sparkling wines. This new cellar is prepared to receive easily and professionally the more than 700 tons of grapes expected from this vintage.

SÃO DOMINGOS Sparkling Wine at Aveiro River with Moliceiro Hotel
The beautiful travel on the river was animated by the guests and the cattering provided by the Moliceiro Hotel, and of course, by SÃO DOMINGOS sparkling wines: Rosé, Tinto, Extra Reserva e Bairrada. During the ride, we sitll had the opportunity of witness moments of rare beauty – the annual regatta of Moliceiros (traditional boats used to collect and transport aquatic vegetation).
